The Bloom BMX hosted their first BLOOM WKND event at Woodward Camp in partnership with Ride Like a Girl, a weekend that was dedicated to women 17+ during Woodward’s open ride sessions over Easter weekend.
Women’s BMX is growing rapidly; in fact, we saw a +39% increase in global Googling activities for “Women’s BMX” during the Paris 2024 Olympics compared to Tokyo 2020. To us, that confirms what we’ve been seeing, that women of all ages are getting into BMX; girls who are starting younger and women who are starting later in life.
During a normal summer season, Woodward Camp is geared towards riders 17 and under, and while adult camp weekends exist, they are few and far between and aren’t tailored to women. Late last year, we also lost the Wheel Mill, leaving us with one less Women’s Weekend event to look forward to. By creating Bloom WKND, we wanted to fill that void but also give the experience that most adult women haven’t had yet, and that was being able to ride with other women at Woodward Camp!
After this weekend’s event, the difference was clear: riding with other women created a level of camaraderie, relatability and encouragement that helped you accelerate your progression. Throughout the weekend, we had yoga sessions, jams and gave our riders the freedom to explore the facilities Woodward Camp had to offer – we also lucked out on the weather! We saw women riding in packs, a rare and meaningful experience, and during the hangout on Saturday night, we had the riders share something about their day, and it was clear that it was an impactful weekend. Grab some tissues and watch the recap below, and we’ll hopefully see you next year.
Thank You!
Thank you to the sponsors, the riders and especially the Bloom crew: Carley Young, Nina Buitrago, Cory Coffey, Jamie Bestwick, Kerry Bestwick, Bethany Hedrick, Angie Marino, Kate Bordenave, Maddy Mario, Perris Benegas, Jessica Ausec and Charlotte Worthington. Thank you for giving up your time to make sure each rider left feeling accomplished and going beyond to make sure this event was a success.
