AUSTRALIA – REGIONAL REPORT WITH KELLY ROWSELL

Kelly Rowsell – @kelly.rowsell rider and founder of @ytg.bmx Aus. Girls supporting girls, organizing lessons with different coaches around Southeast Queensland, creating opportunities for female riders. I’m Back with another news report from down under.

Event recap

Congratulations to Mylee Toohey for an outstanding performance at FISE-Montpellier. Qualified 10th in qualifying’s and taking out 11th in the finals. We are so proud of her. No easy feat out on the big stage for a young girl just starting her career. Awesome to see the addition of Women’s street BMX as well!

Pizzey Park Pump Track is officially open and everyone is loving it! Attracting large numbers of riders early mornings before school and after school, weekends at the moment you’re lucky to get a ride in. Your best bet is to head there during school hours. Would say definitely worth the money spent. Such a great addition to an already very popular Pizzey skatepark.

SCX Competition in Alexandra Heads was cancelled due to rain and will be rescheduled. Dates TBA

Natalya and Sarah competed in Shanghai for the Olympic qualifiers. Natalya made it through to finals and finished 9th place. Sarah had a nasty crash in warm up with another rider but thankfully both walked away able to still compete. Sarah unfortunately crashed in her first run and with both runs counting she ended up 17th. Both girls rode really well and will hopefully have another chance to qualify for the Olympics in Budapest in a few weeks.

Big Air Bike Park has officially reopened in Tuncurry NSW! Big Air closed due to a neighboring factory catching fire and forced it closure. Thankfully they were able to rebuild and Alirah and friends headed down for the opening. Alirah said “It’s better than ever, and super fun to ride”. Looking forward to getting a girls crew down there soon!

Upcoming Events

I am hosting a girls ride day on the 7th of July at Beenleigh skatepark. The girls will be able to win prizes from supporting brands such as Fist Hand Wear, LSKD, BMX center, etc. I have some fun games planned which will include relay races, best new trick and many more. The aim is to build our community of female rider and show our support for one another and of course have fun.

Good luck to Kayla McCormick who has entered Street Culture mag’s – Girls combat contest. Go check out all the girls edits on YouTube and don’t forget to vote for your favourite.

Rider spotlight

This month’s rider spotlight is definitely Sarah Nikki not only is she an awesome rider and person but she is also working with Josh Khoury, coaching fresh pedal lessons at level up training facility.

A few weeks ago at the women’s lesson in between runs Sophie Hildebrand and I noticed Sarah coaching the little kids. She was right in there with them, running up and down ramps along side them, cheering them on. The ultimate hype coach you need in every session. We both said “we would have happily ended our lesson just to sit there and watch her coach the children all night!”.

Kim Lea Müller is back down under! Probably one of the sweetest, bubbliest, goofiest chicks I’ve ever met. Does everything with a smile on her face and enjoys riding with everyone. We love having her here!

That’s it from down under,
Until next month… Yeah The Girls! XxX
