What is your BMX origin story – How did you get into BMX? I got into BMX by just riding my bike to school when I was younger. A few of my friends would ride there afterward, I went once and fell in love with it.
What languages do you speak? Unfortunately, only English. I tried to learn Spanish but I’m absolutely terrible hahah I can’t roll my tongue the way I need to.Â
Your top three parks:
- Hotbox (Auscycling indoor training facility)
- Beenleigh Skatepark
- mmmm honestly, I’m not sure haha probably just any outdoor concrete parks that are good to do tech stuff on.
Top three songs to get you pumped: Damn, these change all the time hahahÂ
- Any Chris Brown song
- Black Betty – Spiderbait
- Radioactive – Imagine Dragons
I share my Spotify with my sister so it’s (Shakiah Diehm) if you really want to see what I listen to. I’ll add screenshots of my fav playlists 😂If you want to hear some throwback bangers then (2000-2017 so fresh) is a BANGGGAAAAADon’t feel like having to skip every second song? (Big Bootie Mixes) goes HARRRRD
Three people who inspire you and why:
- Logan Martin – He is the definition of being a top athlete. Very professional, motivated, and driven. 100% deserves all of his successes and is a family guy.
- Caroline Buchanan – Again… look at her… A top athlete and a major success in all things BMX and MTB. Both Caroline and Logan have been there to help me throughout my career and are very down-to-earth people despite the names that they’ve made for themselves.
- My family
What is a trend in BMX you want to stop seeing? Ahhhhh that one person posts a reel with a song and then everyone else uses the same song on their next reel 😂
How do you spend your days off your bike? I’m lucky enough to live right by the beach, so usually spend my days down there. Hang out with friends or go shopping 😬
Favourite person to ride with? Hannah Roberts – she’s just my favourite person lol.
Favourite shoes to ride in? Before my injury, I was riding in these Vans prototype shoes and I think they’re the new Kevin Peraza release!!
Most inspirational quote: It’s hard to pick just one but something I’ve had to keep telling myself recently, I wouldn’t say it’s very “inspirational” but it’s – “Control the controllables”. You can only control what you can control so don’t stress/worry about things that you can’t do anything about. “Focus on what you can do” – things happen good and bad so take it as it comes and live in the moment.
Best advice given: You said these were easy questions! ahaha There’s obviously been plenty – the first thing that comes to mind is the classic “Be authentically you”. Because once you embrace who you are, you become confident and happy. It won’t matter what people might have to say about you because you love who you are and living ‘your’ life to the fullest. You attract what you put out – so if that’s positivity then great things and people will come into your life.Â
Your biggest fear? Spiders. The people closest around me dying. Not reaching the full potential that I know I have and living in regret.
Your proudest accomplishment? Being one of the first-ever Freestyle BMX athletes to compete in the Olympics.Â
Three guilty pleasures:
- Spending too much time stalking people on social media
- Just food.
- Car karaoke
Your worst habit? I’m an impulsive shopper I talk to myself Orrrrr I make this loud popping sound with my chewy and people hate it haha
If you could hire someone to help you in some sort of aspect of your life, what would it be? I guess maybe a PA so that they can do the things that I don’t feel like doing especially when I’m lazy. Even maybe like a personal photographer/videographer would be cool.
Your top three future goals you want to achieve:
- Paris 2024
- Become a Freestyle BMX Coach for Australia and be the best at it.
- Live a happy and comfortable life and be a mother.
