We had arrived late last night and stayed in Huntington Beach for just the evening, the hotel was situated just steps from the beach, and even though we had all the intentions to take a morning walk – Maca, Angie, and I were delayed by breakfast and before we knew it, it was time to load up the van. As the sun was rising and the asphalt roads were warming, we found ourselves on the road again heading east from Huntington Beach to Palm Springs. Tired from a week of non-stop riding, most of the crew in the RV were passed out on the drive, a much-needed nap to get through the day. It’s been a week of fun but the wear and tear of riding, traveling, and hopping from hotel to hotel every evening was starting to wear everyone down.
The first official stop of the day took us to Desert Hot Springs, I say official because the actual first stop wasn’t the right park. A little too small, we scoped the park, picked up a hitchhiker named Cory Coffey, and left pretty quickly to ride the intended park. Desert Hot Springs was a complicated park, and depending on how you saw it, it either had endless lines or no lines. The sun was high and the air was so dry it felt like you were losing moisture with every breath out. Those who wore all black that day were painfully regretting that decision. There were several highlights from this stop; Linda working out the speed to get a double peg on a sub, Perris with another gap that no one dares touch and we also added another hitchhiker to the crew, in the form of Keir Sirlin. Before I knew it, it was 4 pm and the crew was done and gassed.
One spot being never enough, we found ourselves next to a ditch that was scenically placed with the mountains in the background. As the day progressed and the sun was coming down, the mountains were glittering with layers of light. Everyone was tired from the day, being in the sun for hours can really kill your energy day after day, but once again, even with a migraine that joggled her head every time she rode over a pebble, Angie mustered the energy to get a few bank to wall clips in.
