After being on a trip together for nearly a week now, it would be natural for people to get sick of each other, but not with this crew. Day 5 of Vans x The Bloom in hindsight was a chiller of a day, the first stop taking us to Menlo skatepark, (Modelo Skatepark – IYKYK) and it was the first time where one of our stops wasn’t completely empty, but not horrible given it was a Saturday. Menlo was another big bowl park, with three distinct sections that got deeper and deeper. As soon as I got there, I saw a transfer line into the deepest section of the bowl for Perris, but she was already on it. The ladies made quick work of the park; the ladies found lines to film and got some clips in. After a couple of hours, it was time to hit the streets of San Jose, California.Â
I wish I knew the whereabouts of the spots we found to name them off, but luckily Samar and his friends helped us venture around and we found a few ledges and wallrides along the way, including a long street ledge that Linda did several feeble and pedal slide variations on and Angie with a smith to oppo tooth. I thought Dan Foley was about to get into a fight while filming that spot because at the end of the ledge was a homeless woman living in a tent with some carts that were in the way. When Dan politely asked if he could move the cart a smidge to film, she catapulted out of the tent and started screaming incoherently as she pushed the carts far off into the grass. It was a little shocking to see the number of people living in tents, it’s not like we don’t have that in Canada but we were really close to the community as we were exploring for street spots.
One of our last stops on the street tour took us to a playground with rubber padding similar to that of a resi, and a volcano made of the same material. Linda, Samar, and his friend also named Dan, had some fun at the spot, while Teresa and I tossed around the football and played on the jungle gym. Our next stop of the day took us to Lake Cunningham for a sunset sesh. No amount of words could describe how granular this park was, there were an endless amount of bowls, two large full pipes, and ledges for every level of riding, including several pump tracks and mountain bike sized jumps. At this point of the day, everyone was gassed from being in the sun earlier, but once again Angie somehow found the energy to get some clips in. By the end of the night, the crew was starting to make silly mistakes, laughing hysterically at them, and by that point, it was a clear sign to wrap things up for the day.Â
The final stop of the day was to Sushi Kan Japanese Restaurant. Sushi On The Beach, Sex in the City, Hot Night, Orgasm, and Wizard Pee (not Pea), were just some of the names of the sushi rolls on the menu. Good food, good drinks with good people, it was a night we bonded even more as a crew.Â
