The amazing Nikita Ducarroz, was at the X Games this past weekend in Los Angeles and she was kind enough to send us a day-to-day journal! Nikita and her FDV crew, were given an amazing opportunity from GoodPeople to work with the interactive skatepark there. Below is post 1/5, so you’re gonna want to check back daily, for the rest of the updates.
Today was the day to drive from my house in Sonoma County to Staples Center in LA. We woke up around 5:30 so that we (my mom, cousin, and I) could leave at 6:30 to pick up my aunt and grandma who were coming along. The drive was about 6 and a half hours but didn’t seem very long as we had the music going the whole time, and my personal favorite, my megaphone.
Once we got there we went to meet up with Mike Elberts from GoodPeople, the crew running the entire interactive park section at X Games, to get our credentials and a tour of the event lot. There we met up with my three FDV riders who came along, Tyler Lynch, Jeremy Kemp, and Robbie DeCelle.
It was all pretty mind boggling for me, being my first time ever in LA, and just seeing everything going on. I felt like I was in a dream. Then we went to check into our hotel and at that point I was sure I was dreaming. That place was HUGE! The nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in was a Courtyard Marriott, which isn’t a bad hotel, so to me this place was like a palace. That night I wasn’t feeling that great which played on my anxiety a bit and all the excitement was gone. I finally was able to fall asleep but wasn’t too happy when I opened my eyes and realized it was morning, meaning go time, something I was now dreading because of my panic attacks.
